George Yufa – childhood
George’s hometown is Sverdlovsk. Its current name is Yekaterinburg. From childhood it was clear that the boy was musical. He studied not at an ordinary high school, but at a specialized one created at the Ural Conservatory. It should be noted that there were only ten such schools in the entire Soviet Union.
Having successfully graduated from this school, the young man continued his musical education at the conservatory. There he studied cello. Despite the obvious successes and great prospects, Georgy did not take music seriously, did not make it his profession.
The first songs of George Yufa
Yufa was quite successful in business. Music has not completely disappeared from his life. He began to visit karaoke centers, where he had the opportunity to sing, where George met many interesting people and musicians. It was during that period of his life that he realized that he could not live without music, that it was his vocation.
Yufa created a musical group and named it “Rofano”. It included some of the musicians he met at karaoke. Quite quickly, this musical group began to perform and became famous. It was 2006.
The team did not limit themselves to any stylistic framework. Their goal was to find their own extraordinary sound.
The group was equally close to such musical styles as soul, art-rock, jazz, ice-jazz, etc. The musicians presented the audience and listeners with the material of the highest quality. The first studio album was released in 2007. Unusually, it was released on vinyl, which was a reflection of the outlook of the Rofano members.
The group gave many concerts, took part in music festivals. “Rofano” in 2008 performed at the “Manor Jazz” project. Soon the team members decided to take a break from working together and took a sabbatical. Only in 2013 the musicians gathered again in order to start performing and delight their listeners. Having prepared a new author’s material, the group began preparations for the release of a new music album.
Despite the fact that they took a break from performing, Rofano still continued to strive to show the beauty of live sound, distinguished by scrupulous attention to sound.
George Yufa Voice
For the last few years, Yufa not only played the cello, he seriously took up vocals. It should be noted that he is doing great. In 2014, he decided to try his hand at the Voice show. By submitting an application, George received an invitation.
“Blind” auditions were successful for the vocalist. He gave listeners and viewers a vivid impression by performing the song “Nothing`s gonna change my love”. All mentors turned their chairs to the contestant. Thus, George could choose any of them, but approached Leonid Agutin. According to the musician, he decided in advance that if Agutin turns to him, he will choose him as his mentor on the project.
Georgy seemed to dissolve into the song during the performance, while singing it easily, without any tension.
The ability to control one’s own vocals, a pleasant timbre of voice, openness, originality and sincerity did their job. After hearing the performed composition, it became clear to everyone that the jury was facing a great talented musician and performer.
Diana Sharapova became Georgiy’s opponent in the “fights”. They performed the song “Beauty and the beast”. The second stage of the fights again ended in victory for the contestant. The artists performed the song perfectly, but Leonid Agutin decided that Yufa would continue the fight. Diana also did not leave the show, she was saved by Alexander Gradsky.
For knockouts, Georgy, together with his mentor, picked up a wonderful song written by Raimonds Pauls – “The Way to the Light”. Another member of the Voice, Mariam Merabova, suggested that Yufe pay attention to this composition.
The contestant was sure that after this tour he would again remain on the project. He began his performance by playing the cello.
Unfortunately, after the quarter-finals, where the performer sang the song “September”, he left the show. It is possible that the composition was not chosen very well for him. For many fans, Yufa’s departure came as a surprise.

George managed to demonstrate his talent as a musician on one of the most famous stages in the world – Carnegie Hall. There he performed Shostakovich’s 1st cello concerto with orchestra. At the American Protege competition (New York), Yufa won in such a nomination as “the best non-professional performance”.
The musician’s talisman is his cello. He treats the instrument like a member of the family. He believes that he helps him in everything. Wherever Yufa goes, the tool is always with him. This cello was created by the great Italian master Guadanini in 1783.
