Alexander Shevchenko pastor biography
Alexander Shevchenko is one of those people who are usually called “man of destiny”. Alexander was born in the Ukrainian city of Krivoy Rog in 1974. Until the age of seventeen, Krivoy Rog became a native place for Alexander. Here he spent his childhood and youth. Sasha was the eldest son of Nikolai and Maria Shevchenko, who raised their five children based on biblical principles and values.
In 1991, Alexander emigrated to the USA with his parents. After 2 years (after graduating from school, taking into account 9 classes of education in Ukraine), having received a complete secondary education in an American school; Alexander with a group of young people left for Russia (Vologda, Kostroma) for several years, where several Christian communities were created by joint efforts.
During this time, under the influence of the experience of the practical Gospel, Alexander changed his thinking, priorities lined up and solid goals in life were formed. Several years of work in the Russian expanses to a large extent influenced Alexander’s later life.
Personal life
In 1996, on his way, he met Jeanne – a beautiful woman, a person devoted to God – who later became his wife and faithful collaborator in the ministry.
Alexander and Zhanna have two children: Daniil and Victoria. In the same year (1996), the young Shevchenko couple founded a mission ministry called “The Corner”, which in the shortest possible time gained wide public recognition among the Slavic emigration in the United States, as well as in the countries of the former USSR. Television programs with testimonies of people in whose lives God manifested Himself in a supernatural way could not be overlooked by society. In the formation and beginning of the mission, the young family was helped by parents, siblings and several devoted friends.
Life path
A few years later, Alexander began to record his seminar talks, the great demand for which prompted him to open offices in Kyiv, Moscow, Minsk and Riga, through which about 100 thousand cassettes are distributed annually. Alexander receives invitations to different countries of the world, and the number of seminars he conducts is growing every year.
In August, 2005, after a long internal struggle lasting more than a year, Alexander and Jeanne submitted to the call of God, and a new Christian community “House of Bread” was opened in Sacramento (California, USA), the first service of which took place on 15 January, 2006

Interview
Interview from 04/01/2018
Founder and senior pastor of the “House of Bread” church, teacher of the Word of God, organizer and speaker of many conferences and seminars in different countries of the world. He is the author and host of television programs in the format of the talk show “Angle” and “Position”, the initiator of the television project “God-seeking of the Slavic peoples.” Author of the books “Church and Civil Society”, “Types of Mentality”, “Someone Intercede”, “Assault on Supreme Sovereignty” and manuals “Self-Knowledge in the Light of Spiritual Laws” and “The Concept of Service”.
I don’t consider myself special, my calling at this stage of my life is to be a pastor. The pastor is the most ordinary person, he also gets upset, laughs, cries, learns to forgive and struggles with temptations, like other people. With the only proviso that, according to his moral standards, he still should be an example for others.
I learned to make independent decisions since childhood, because I was the eldest in the family. We have five parents, and mom and dad always welcomed our right to independence, they said: this is your life, and you yourself will be responsible for your choice. At that time, I liked to draw, write poetry, I read a lot of Russian classics – Dostoevsky, Bunin, Tolstoy …
But at the age of 16, a turning point came – I deliberately abandoned most of my hobbies and began to read theological literature. And although at times it seemed boring to me, I intuitively understood that this was my path in life.
It seems to me that I easily forgive and let go of grievances. Not to forgive a person – there is no right at all. If it seems to you that you cannot forgive, think about how much God has forgiven you!? Someone well noted: as a rule, forgiveness is asked not by those who are to blame, but by those who want to save the relationship.
It took me a year and a half to decide on the creation of the “House of Bread” church. I remember the moment when at one in the morning I was driving in a car from a meeting with friends, and for the first time such a thought came to me: if I had once been at the head of a new Christian community in Sacramento, I would have called it “House of Bread.” Then it seemed impossible. There were many churches around, and creating something new meant going against both people and traditions.
Therefore, I pondered for a year and a half whether this is mine or not, whether this thought itself is the highest providence for me, whether God is behind it, or, on the contrary, this is someone else’s idea that the enemy threw to me.
“House of Bread” has existed for 12 years. A lot of people came to us immediately. These are people who are open to new things and who were weighed down by the vacuum in the religious diaspora of our city. In the first year, I preached alone, but over time, many ministries developed, the team grew to 170 people! Today on Sundays we are visited by 1800-2000 people. We have many events during the week, in the summer there are camps for different groups, separately for children, for teenagers, for women, for men. There is a general education school.
The world is changing rapidly. If people are kept in a confined space, they will start to scatter. The church must respond to the needs of the people in time and space. Someone said that nothing should be as constant as change. The sermons must be true. I try to speak on the topic of the day, hold discussions, forums, round tables, give the opportunity to ask questions, etc. If I don’t have an answer, if I can’t help a person and I see that he starts looking for answers elsewhere, then why should he be judged?
No one should be forcibly restrained or intimidated, which is sometimes characteristic of a religious environment.
From the first days of the founding of the church, we refused to designate ourselves as any denomination. We are not Baptists, not Pentecostals, not Adventists, we deliberately moved away from these terms. Of course, we have a charter, doctrines, internal rules, our own concept of ministry, which define the shores of our dogma.
One of the largest projects, which lasts almost eight years, is a multi-part documentary-staged film “The God-Seeking of the Slavic Peoples”. On March 18, the premiere of the fifth film took place. A large team of about 500 people is working on this project. The budget for each film is over $100,000. The film tells about unknown pages in the history of the development of the evangelical segment of the Slavic Church. In Soviet times, Evangelical Christians were considered sectarians, their rights were infringed upon, and they were imprisoned.
In the film, with the help of historical and archival documents, we tell the truth about the little-known followers of the faith. The motto of the film, which can to some extent be called the motto of my life, is that people should know the truth, and they will draw their own conclusions.
