Brooklyn Beckham

Brooklyn Joseph Beckham (born 4 March 1999) is an English model and photographer. He is the eldest son of English former football player David Beckham and English singer turned fashion designer Victoria Beckham.

Early life

Brooklyn Joseph Beckham was born at Portland Hospital in Marylebone, London, the son of David Beckham and Victoria Adams (now Beckham) It is often reported that he was named Brooklyn because he was conceived in Brooklyn, New York; however, according to Victoria Beckham’s autobiography “Learning to Fly”, written in 2001, she and her husband just liked the name, and only after choosing it

“they realized how suitable it was, because it was in New York that I found out that I was pregnant, and David came there after the World Cup. Beckham’s father is of partial Jewish descent.”

Beckham grew up in Madrid and Los Angeles while his father played for Real Madrid and LA Galaxy. He has three younger siblings: Romeo James, Cruz David, and sister Harper Seven. In December 2004, Beckham and Romeo were jointly christened in a private chapel on the grounds of their parents’ mansion in Hertfordshire. His godparents are Elton John, David Furnish and Elizabeth Hurley. At the age of 15, Beckham worked weekends at a coffee shop in west London.

Beckham played at Arsenal FC’s academy but left in 2015 after failing to receive a scholarship to stay at the academy.

Career

Beckham began modeling professionally in 2014, and has appeared in editorials and on the cover of Vogue China, Miss Vogue, Interview, L’Uomo Vogue, T:The New York Times Style Magazine and Dazed Korea. He was photographed by Bruce Weber, Terry Richardson, Daniel Jackson and Alasdair MacLellan.

In 2018, Beckham posted two pictures of Chinese tourists in Italy on Instagram with the caption “No place like Italy innit”, prompting many Asians and Chinese on Twitter, Instagram and Weibo to accuse him of anti-Asian or anti-Chinese racism.

In 2016, at the age of 16, Beckham photographed a campaign for Burberry BRIT, which featured models Ben Rees, Carvell Condua, Eliza Thomas, Liv Mason Pearson and Maddy Demine.

Beckham’s hiring for the campaign was met with criticism from several prominent photographers. Chris Floyd called Burberry’s decision to hire Beckham a “photographic devaluation” and “pure nepotism”, while fashion photographer John Gorrigan called it an example of “unfairness in many areas” of the industry.

In 2017, Beckham announced that he would study photography at the Parsons School of Design at the New School in New York. However, after a year in the US, Beckham decided to return to the UK in 2018 for a photography internship. In 2019, he interned with British photographer Rankin.

Beckham’s first book of photographs titled “What i see” was published in June 2017. Reaction from critics was mixed to negative.

A handful of leaked photos became the butt of Twitter ridicule, ridiculing “terrible pictures and even more horrible captions”. However, Random House, Beckham’s publisher, defended the book as reflecting the interests of his teenage fan base.
