Career
Mallard made his debut in 2014 at the age of 15, taking on the role of Ben Kirk on the Australian soap opera Neighbors for a three-week guest appearance on six episodes. He auditioned through his modeling agent, which he unexpectedly won. He had never thought about acting before, but this experience helped him understand that this is what he wants to do for the rest of his life.
He returned the following year for another 4-month guest role while still in school. After graduating from 12th grade, Mullard decided to pursue acting full-time, and in 2016 he rejoined Neighbors as a permanent member.
Mallard’s interest in music was reflected in his character, and he frequently played music in the series. In the same year, he starred in “Xanthe & Ben”, a 20-episode online spin-off released on Instagram, as well as the web series “Summer Stories”, which aired during the 2016 Christmas period. Mallard filmed his final scenes for Neighbors in late 2017. In his latest storyline, Ben moved to his late father’s hometown of Oakie, Queensland to start over.
Its last episode aired on April 10, 2018. He made two on-screen appearances via video link on December 31, 2018 and January 7, 2019. He also appeared in Melbourne band Maefire’s music video for “Without You” in 2016.

Happy Together is based on the story of English singer Harry Styles, who moved in with TV producer Ben Winston and his family to hide from the spotlight when pop group One Direction exploded in popularity.
After producer Winston offered him the part, Mallard received phone calls from Harry Styles and James Corden who convinced him to accept the part. Mallard originally auditioned with an American accent, but was asked to switch to his native Australian accent.
The show debuted on October 1, 2018, but after mediocre ratings, it was announced on November 28, 2018 that CBS had refused to order additional episodes of the series beyond the original order of thirteen. C BS canceled the show on May 10, 2019.
