Julia Fox (actress)
Julia Fox (born 1989 or 1990) is an Italian-American actress and director. She is best known for her debut role in the 2019 film Uncut Gems, for which she was nominated for a Breakthrough Actor Award at the 2019 Gotham Awards.
Early life and education
Fox was born in Milan, Italy to an Italian mother and an American father. Fox spent her early years with her grandfather. At the age of six, she moved to New York with her father and lived in Yorkville, Manhattan. She worked several jobs in the service industry, including a shoe store, an ice cream shop, and a candy store. Fox attended City-As-School High School and worked as a dominatrix for six months.
Career
Prior to her role in Uncut Gems, Fox was a fashion designer and launched the successful Franziska Fox women’s knitwear line with her friend Briana Andalore. She has also modeled, posed nude for the latest issue of Playboy in 2015, and has exhibited as an artist and photographer. She has self-published two photography books, Symptomatic of a Relationship Gone Sour: Heartburn/Nausea, published in 2015, and PTSD, published in 2016.
In 2017, Fox hosted an art exhibition called “R.I.P. Julia Fox'” featuring silk canvases painted in her own blood.
In 2019, Fox made her debut in the Safdie brothers’ feature film Rough Gems, playing a showroom clerk and lover of the film’s protagonist Howard Ratner (played by Adam Sandler), an unstable jewelery dealer and gambling addict.
Fox had known the Safdie brothers for nearly a decade after meeting Josh Safdie by chance at a cafe in Soho, Manhattan.
Fox also wrote and directed “Fantasy Girls”, a short film about a group of teenage girls involved in the sex trade in Reno, Nevada. She starred in Ben Hosey’s “PVT Chat”, playing a cam girl named Scarlet. The film was released in the USA on February 5, 2021
Personal life
Fox married Peter Artemiev, a private pilot from Brighton Beach, Brooklyn, in November 2018. They reside in Yorkville, Manhattan. On February 14, 2021, Fox announced the birth of her son.
